BEST VALUE TVS – WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Gone are the days when you had to spend over £1,000 on a chunky, 32-inch box with a disappointing screen. Tellies have improved no end, and are now slimmer, more attractive and better-sounding than ever. Most important of all though, is that they offer a far better viewing experience than ever.
Apart from Game of Thrones, 4K is the hottest term in TV right now. Simply put, it's a picture technology that quadruples the pixel count of Full HD, creating sharper, more lifelike images. The fact that Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and YouTube are increasing their efforts on this front is good news too.
However, that's not to say that Full HD's dead. While not quite as new and exciting, Full HD TVs are still excellent options. This is largely because the core technology at the heart of the best screens, such as black levels, contrast ratio and colour accuracy, is consistently higher than ever before.
While not quite as important, 3D playback and HDR are two more features to look out for. While we’re not totally taken with the 3D experience at home, it can be great for keeping children entertained. HDR, meanwhile, is still very much in its infancy, but will become increasingly prevalent as more HDR content is created.
For those who yearn for a more complete home cinema setup, you may also want to consider investing in a soundbar, as terrific audio can make a huge difference to your viewing experience. Best of all, you can now pick one up for less than £100.
